McDonald’s: Premium Southwest Salad with Grilled Chicken

Today's Tasty Lie is a real lie.  I'm not talking about looks or taste.  I'm simply talking about the fact that today's Tasty Lie is a salad from McDonald's.  I know what you're thinking; McDonald's doesn't make salads.

You would be incorrect, in fact they have a full line of salads.  I remember once upon a time they served salads in a drink cup and called them McSalad Shakers and they were the weirdest/creepiest thing ever.  I never actually tasted one and I'm kind of glad I didn't.

But it's a whole new world and McDonald's has been pressured to at least offer things that seem relatively healthy, and so we have a new line of  "premium" salads with fancy ingredients.  And luckily we have Christen to eat such things, so let's check it out!

It looks like a respectible salad with pretty decent ingredients!  I like the lime wedge, though you won't see that below.  We'll address that in a minute.  It looks like a really good salad and a good amount of chicken for protein.  Let's see what it really looks like?

There's actually more chicken than the advertisement would lead you to believe and that is an awesome surprise.  The rest of it looks like a tossed salad mix of everything pictured above, so everything is definitely there, except for the lime.  The lime isn't there because Christen is a weirdo and is convinced that she will catch some kind of magical bacteria if she has the lime wedge anywhere near her salad.

She is a crazy person.  Let's see what the crazy person thinks about the meal…

Today I had the Premium Southwest Salad with Grilled Chicken from McDonalds. I think it was pretty good. The chicken was flavorful, tender, and not scary. The dressing was spicy, which I like, and maybe a little sweet, which I'm not sure about. I like the black beans and corn and tortilla chip strips. It gives it a little pizazz. There's also some cheese and carrot shavings. Supposedly, this salad has 290 calories, 8g fat, 28g carbs, 650mg sodium, and 27g protein. The dressing, of which I only needed about half the pouch, has 100 calories, 6g fat, 11g carbs, 340mg sodium, and 1g protein. People might think McDonalds salads are just as bad as their other meals, but I think we can see that a salad is actually a healthy menu item. It did fill me up, and it tasted pretty darn good. It's healthy while being really convenient. The cost was about $6, which isn't super cheap, but not too expensive either. I would give this meal 3 out of 5 stars.
